Your Art Here :: News!!!
January 21, 2005

Hi everybody! This is a reminder to all parents in the Bloomington area that the Your Art Here youth art library programs begin tomorrow, Saturday, January 22, at the MCPL!

Your Art Here Workshops
Come to an informative art workshop conducted by Your Art Here (YAH), a Bloomington based, social arts organization currently using commercial billboards as public art spaces. Every March, in celebration of National Youth Art Month, YAH sponsors a themed call for entries for Bloomington and Indianapolis youth. This year YAH will ask kids to make art on the topic, "Exercise your free speech: What do you want to say?" These age specific workshops, conducted by YAH and the librarians, will get kids started on their entries. Please (try to) register in advance.

Saturday, January 22, Children's Program Room
 Grades K-3 10:30-11:30am
 Grades 4-6 1:30-2:30pm

Tuesday, January 25, Room 2-B
 Grades 7-12 - 7-9pm

If you are not able to make it to the library programs, please remember that you can pick up packets for Billboard Generation III at the John Waldron Arts Center, or at http://www.yourarthere.org. All Bloomington entries are due at the Waldron by 5 PM on February 1st.

Billboard Generation III is sponsored by Your Art Here and these fine organizations (The Friends of Art Bookstore, The Bloomington Community Arts Commission, WFIU, WTIU, Pygmailions Art Supply, WFHB, and The Monroe County Library):

In November 2002, an out-of-work actress (Kathryn Blume) and environmentalist gets particularly hot under the collar about the Bush administration's planned war on Iraq. She concocts the Lysistrata Project, arranging for simultaneous readings of the ancient Greek anti-war comedy "Lysistrata" all over the world. After two months of 18-hour days, the project is a raging success, with over 1000 simultaneous readings in 59 countries and in all 50 states. But after the project is over, she still doesn't have an active career... and the U.S. goes to war anyway. Blume presents her odyssey of self-discovery in a one-woman show.

Survival skills for grant writers in the arts

Thursday, January 27, 7:00 p.m., Program Room 2C

-Where can I find funding to support my creativity?
-How can we get the financial support to make a fantastic idea come to life?

These are questions heard regularly at the Bloomington Area Arts Council. Nancy Krueger, BAAC assistant director, will provide tips and information that can benefit anyone charged with writing a grant application.

Nancy will focus primarily on grant writing for the arts for both individuals and organizations, but skills learned in this workshop may be adapted to other kinds of grant writing.

Cosponsored by BAAC and the Monroe County Public Library.
