Performers
Thanks to the performers for providing their creative talents in support of Your Art Here.
John Walsh and the Sinkholes: Though it's been almost a decade since the release of their debut, Antimatter Eisenhower, John Walsh and the Sinkholes never really went away. They spent the late 90s adapting the sound of Brit-pop idols like Oasis and Blur to their own distinctive Midwestern twang, culminating in the unreleased classic Sinkholes Going Steady. Backed by drummer David Britton and bassist Bob Nugent, Walsh and guitarist Paul Aarstad face the new century with bare-wires guitar and bare-knuckled emotion, making a compelling case for the enduring appeal of the American garage band. Onward and upward!
Sam Lowry & the Circumstance: Sam Lowry spins tales of broken relationships and the fool's hope that moves us all from one disaster scene to the next, like some mid-west Raymond Carver with a guitar. Over the course of three critically acclaimed albums and shows, ranging from gas money gigs in coffee houses and tiny bars to festivals like MACRock 2001 and Bloomingtonfest 2002, Lowry has slowly been spreading his unique brand of dark americana across the country. Lowry and his occasional, ever changing backing band the Circumstance have garnered rave reviews from audiences ranging from the alt.country crowd to fans of singer-songwriters to the underground indie-music scene.
BJ Sunfire: BJ Sunfire is Monroe County's premier rock vocalist. Bearded and agile, he controls the stage like a cougar in the wild. BJ's sweaty, dance-crazy tunes invigorate the audience, inspiring all in attendance to reach beyond themselves and share their inherent greatness with the entire cosmos.
Jack Flannel: Jack Flannel (aka Don Juan Franela) is of unknown age and origin. Once hailed as the "Booze Guzzlin' Bard of B-town", Jack has performed with lobotomy rock torchbearers Tin Foil Hat, H.P. Loveboat, and Big Fat Butt. He's an Aries, his favorite color is green, and he accepts personal checks.
DJ Sony Playstation: “I have had the privilege of witnessing DJ Sonyplaystation’s presentations and myriad collaborations since his beginnings in 1998 and I am here to tell you that this Bloomington resident’s musical innovations, at the forefront of current musical expression, are a obvious force to be reckoned with. While he tends to meld his DJing sets with his typical repertoire of electronic, avant jazz, J-pop, and experimental rock, he is regularly known to throw virtually any wildcard snippet or song at you. Truly, he is the only DJ who could trick me into rocking out to ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’.” -- Tyco Riley
VJ Dizi: Dizi finds old things and swirls them around and spits out new things. He often does this live, if front of other people, because it's so fun!
