Your Campaign Here, February
Your Art Here is proud to partner with ArtsWeek
2008 on Your Campaign Here, a public art project
that will place the work of artists on yard signs resembling those used in
political campaigns. The artist yard signs will be distributed throughout the
Bloomington community.
This Call for Art is for artists of all ages and artistic inclinations. Submissions should carefully consider political yard signs as a means of expression and question the way in which political information is portrayed to the public.
Deadline for submissions is December 14, 2007.
Artwork can be submitted in two ways:
* by email to mail@yourarthere.org (samples less than 1 MB by email, please)
* by post to Your Art Here, 1419 S. Washington Street, Bloomington, IN 47401
Please include:
* Artist Name
* Title of Piece
* Medium
* E-mail
* Phone
GUIDELINES: GENERAL
1. Acceptable media include any two-dimensional media such as Photography, Painting, Printmaking, Graphic Design, Digital, Video still, Mixed Media, etc.
2. The dimensions for the yard signs should be 18" tall x 24" wide.
Artwork may be cropped with the artist’s permission in the event that a piece does not fit the print dimensions without major distortion.
3. Your Art Here will cover the printing costs for this project with the generous support of a grant from ArtsWeek 2008.
4. Copyright is retained by the artist, but Your Art Here retains the right to use images of the artwork for promotion.
GUIDELINES: ARTISTIC
1. Due to the public nature of this project, we will not consider artwork that depicts nudity or could be conceived as pornographic.
2. We will not accept artwork that marginalizes, in any way, any person and/or group based on race, gender, creed, age, sexual orientation, nationality, and/or disability.
3. We will not consider work that contains profanity.
4. Given the commercial nature of this venue, we are extremely sensitive to any work that could be construed as an advertisement for a product, service, business, event, political candidate or anything else. Therefore, we will not consider advertisements. Under certain conditions, we will consider work that may take on the appearance of an advertisement if that work is not a direct advertisement (rather it subverts or questions the idea of advertising).
5. If granted by the artist, we will include the artist’s first and/or last name on the selected piece. We may include the Your Art Here logo and website address for further information about the artist, the selected piece and this project as a whole.
6. Your Art Here has final say on all curatorial decisions.
Your Campaign Here is sponsored by a grant awarded by Indiana University in promotion of ArtsWeek 2008. ArtsWeek, an annual Indiana University-Bloomington community winter arts festival, celebrates its 24th year from February 20 – March 1, 2008. ArtsWeek showcases the city's many arts organizations along with performers and artists from the IU Bloomington campus in new events, enhanced performances, and presentations of new works. Funded by the IU Office of the Vice Provost for Research, ArtsWeek 2008 focuses on "Politics and the Arts," examining how politics shapes artistic expression, or suppresses it, and how various art forms represent political points of view.
