Stories in Motion : Art in Transit — Call for Art
Your Art Here (YAH), in partnership with Bloomington Transit, is pleased to announce Stories in Motion : Art in Transit,
a public art project that will showcase juried community artwork that captures the spirit of Bloomington.
Artwork will be placed on the outside and inside of Bloomington Transit buses during August, September and October 2006.
This Call for Art is for Bloomington residents of all ages and artistic inclinations. Youth are encouraged to submit entries based on what
makes the Bloomington community special.
Two-dimensional media are accepted and may include, but are not limited to, painting, printmaking, drawings, photography,
digital art and mixed media. See the guidelines below for more information about dimensions, acceptable content, etc.
Deadline for submissions is June 30, 2006.
Artwork can be submitted in several ways . . .
Complete the form available that's part of this Call and submit artwork:
- by email to mail@yourarthere.org (samples less than 1 MB by email, please)
- by post to Your Art Here, 1419 S. Washington Street, Bloomington, IN 47401
- in person at the following locations:
- Banneker Community Center, City of Bloomington, Parks & Recreation, 930 W. 7th Street, between 9am-9pm, Monday-Friday
- John Waldron Art Center, 122 S. Walnut Street, between 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday
- Rhino's Youth Center, 331 S. Walnut Street, between 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday
GUIDELINES: GENERAL
- Acceptable media include any two-dimensional media such as Photography, Painting, Printmaking, Graphic Design, Digital, Video still,
Mixed Media, etc.
- The dimensions for the bus display spaces are as follows:
- Exterior side of bus: 29”h x 96”w
- Exterior back of bus: 27”h x 46”w
- Interior of bus: 11”h x 28”w
Proportions for artwork should come out to a 3 x 5 ratio. Artwork may be cropped with the artist’s permission in the event that a piece does not fit
the print dimensions without major distortion.
Interior pieces could take on a longer, panoramic dimension (for example, 11” x 56” or 11” x 84”). If your artwork incorporates a longer dimension
such as this, please include this information as part of your submission form.
- Your Art Here will cover the printing costs for this project. Bloomington Transit contracts with Crosstown Communications for their bus
advertisements: http://www.bloomingtontransit.com/Advertising.htm.
Crosstown will handle the production and Bloomington Transit the installation of the artwork selected.
- Copyright is retained by the artist, but Your Art Here retains the right to use images of the artwork for promotion.
GUIDELINES: ARTISTIC
- Due to the public nature of this project, we will not consider artwork that depicts nudity or could be conceived as pornographic.
- We will not accept artwork that marginalizes, in any way, any person and/or group based on race, gender, creed, age, sexual orientation, nationality, and/or disability.
- We will not consider work that contains profanity.
- Given the commercial nature of this venue, we are extremely sensitive to any work that could be construed as an advertisement for a product, service, business, event, political candidate or anything else. Therefore, we will not consider advertisements. Under certain conditions, we will consider work that may take on the appearance of an advertisement if that work is not a direct advertisement (rather it subverts or questions the idea of advertising).
- If granted by the artist, we will include the artist’s first and/or last name on the selected piece. We will also include the Your Art Here logo and website address for further information about the artist, the selected piece and this project as a whole.
- Your Art Here and Bloomington Transit have final say on all curatorial decisions.
