Operation
Billboard Freedom
On Friday, July 4th, 2003, the members of Your Art Here and
friends participated in the Bloomington, Indiana, July 4th
Parade with their float, Operation Billboard Freedom. The
float carried a double-sided billboard past hundreds of parade-goers
on the streets of Bloomington. James Nakagawa’s Border
graced one side of the mobile billboard, while Media Conglomerate,
a typography piece created by the four founders of Your Art
Here, Shana Berger, Alyssa Hill, Owen Mundy, and Nathan Purath,
was displayed on the opposite side. Starting at the corner
of 10th and Morton streets, the float traveled down College,
left on Fourth, and then up Walnut street until the corner
of 6th and Walnut streets. At that point, we exited the parade
route and stopped in front of our community billboard, Billboard
101, put up our ladders (that were conveniently riding on
our float), and hung Media Conglomerate in while
the parade continued down the street.
Media Conglomerate is a piece containing over 20
quotes from different authors, musicians, art critics, businessmen,
and politicians that inspired us to create Your Art Here and
continue to inspire as we work to change and redefine our
visual landscape by putting art in public spaces. See more

Art Here site.

Allied Media Conference
Three founders of Your Art Here traveled with Sprocket
to the Moon to the Allied
Media Conference (AMC) in Bowling Green, Ohio, in June.
The AMC drew over 80
different independent media groups, including the Bloomington-based
Boxcar Books, (Go
Bloomington!), The
James Gang (Iowa City), Paper Tiger (NYC), Rad.Art (Michigan),
and Adbusters
Media Foundation (Vancouver).
We met Alternative Radio founder, David
Barsamian, who was the key-note speaker at the conference,
went to a bunch of amazing lectures presented by various independent
media lovers, and met alot of cool people. The Allied Media
Conference is an Annual Event and is sponsored by Clamor
Magazine. Check it out next June!
